Here is a close-up of two of the pipes that are only on this particular stage. There are two identical ones on the opposite side. There between the pipes is the square opening in the bottom of the hold-down post. The entire 3000 ton weight of a fully fueled Saturn V was supported at these four points around the base of the thrust structure.
