LUT Model Photos

Here's some photos of my 1/144 scale Launch Umbilical Tower model. The platform is constructed of 1/8th inch plexiglass, sheathed with .020 stryene sheet. The rest is various sizes of Plastruct beams.

LUT with my very old Saturn V model. The rocket was built in 1976 and has some obvious mistakes. The LUT is built to exact specs while the Saturn V has some scale problems which prevent it from matching up properly. I am going to build a new one to scale height, useing three Monogram kits for parts.

Looking down into the flame hole, the edge blast deflectors are there and the support beams for the hold down arms. I have not added the vertical blast panels to the walls of the hole yet.

Here's a close up of the underside of the flame hole blast deflectors. Water comes out from under these so the detail you see is correct. I build them from strips of 020 styrene, plastruct half channel and half round rod.

A nice view of the edge of the platform, showing flange details. Those flanges on the edge vary in spacing so you have to have a reference to get it right. You can also see the details under those blast deflectors.

This shot is a comparison of a true scale section of my LUT to the Revell tower for the shuttle. You can see the obvious underscale appearance of the kit tower. I am not sure whether a small section of tower could be built and then combined with the kit RSS, maybe someone with dimensions could figure this out.
