Having heard many comments about this book in the newsgroups, I felt sure it would be an asset to my reference collection. I was correct.
Rockets of the World, Second Edition is an excellent reference for any modelmaker, model rocketeer, or just plain space buff. With detailed diagrams for over 200 versions of 137 rockets from 14 countries, just about anything you want to know about the history and variations of rockets is in there.
Each type is covered with written text covering the history of the rocket, along with diagrams showing dimensions, STA numbers (allowing the modelmaker to size parts properly) and the markings schemes. Full performance info is included, even the NAR designation!
Each set of diagrams is fully referenced, allowing the reader to pursue further information. All photographs are identified with a number (NASA, Air Force, etc) which would allow the researcher to obtain a copy from the source.
An excellent Bibliography and Mail order sources for photos and drawings is also included. ROTW is also fully indexed.
Rockets of the World is a indispensable reference work, whether you build 'em, fly 'em or just want to know about 'em, this book has it all. Sadly, this reference has gone out of print as of March 1999. Perhaps Saturn Press will reprint it someday. If you can find a used copy or someone with an extra they are willing to sell, you won't be disappointed.
The Saturn Press website by Peter Alway has many other reference materials available including other excellent books and data packets for static and flying rocket modeling.
